UPDATE! Over Seeding and Topdressing Kentucky Bluegrass
Update on the KB (Kentucky Bluegrass) lawn...
The best tips from Ben:
- If you've got some huge bare patches on your lawn, you can overseed your grass if your grass type has a mix of Kentucky bluegrass and Ryegrass which is a cool-season grass, Autumn would be the perfect time of the year to get down some seed. Here's our cool and warm season grasses list.
- If you're in Australia and you got warm-season grass like Couch, Kikuyu, Ben recommends do not do any overseeding with those grass types until Springtime because it's too cold. Here's our blog on how, why and when to overseed your lawn.
- Moreover, if you've got Couch, Ben 100% prefers to give it a renovation - aerate, scalp it back, scarify if you can, top dress it, and let the Couch/Bermuda/Buffalo fill in by itself - these are self-repairing grass types. Read our tips on how to care for your lawn yourself.
- For slope areas, aerate then allow the Kentucky Bluegrass to take over, keep mowing, possibly give a fertiliser, on a slope Ben prefers doing a liquid fert (as granular fertiliser tend to wash off and leach out pretty quickly).
