How to Sow Dichondra
Dichondra: A pretty and vibrant green ground cover or lawn alternative.
A dense ground cover with pretty round leaves that is often called kidney weed.
Dichondra spreads in a creeping fashion across the ground, boasting a bright green color and a cushiony feel underfoot. It's perfect for areas where other plants thrive, adding a picturesque touch to your landscape. The best part? It’s low maintenance and requires minimal care, making it ideal for busy folk who still wants a beautiful lawn.
HOW TO SOW DICHONDRA SEED:
1. PREPARE YOUR SOIL
Remove rocks, weeds and debris, ensuring good drainage through digging or aeration. Level the area, being careful not to remove too much topsoil and use good quality soil for best results.
2. FERTILISE BEFORE SOWING
Apply a Starter Fertiliser to the seedbed either a few days before sowing or on the same day and rake it into the soil. Landscape Range KickStart Fertiliser should be applied at a rate of 3kg of fertiliser per 100m².
3. SPREAD SEED EVENLY
Follow the suggested sowing rate recommended on the product. If the area is large, divide the area and seed into manageable sections for even distribution. Spread the seed across the surface at a rate of 1kg per 100m². Gently rake to lightly cover the seed. Seed should be making good contact with the soil.
4. WATERING
Don’t let your seed dry out! For best results keep the seedbed constantly damp for 3 to 4 weeks using a fine spray to avoid moving seeds.
Dichondra is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a low-maintenance plant that doesn't require constant upkeep. Dichondra thrives with partial shade to filtered sunlight. Make sure to watch the weather conditions and regularly water to keep irrigated.
