Summer Lawn Tips: NSW and ACT

Date: 26-11-2024

While the warmer weather is a green light for sowing, it’s essential to keep an eye on your watering schedule. Germinating seed requires moist soil, so expect to water your lawn frequently to ensure successful germination and establishment.

COOL/WARM SEASON BLENDS:

Summer’s early days offer the ideal opportunity to kickstart your lawn care. The moderate temperatures provide a window for sowing blends that will prepare your lawn for the warmer months ahead.

  • Drought Master Blend: Ideal for regions with dry spells, this blend is perfect for creating a low-maintenance lawn that can handle the heat of summer. Its drought-tolerant properties ensure that your lawn will thrive even when water is scarce.
  • All Season Couch Blend: This blend adapts well to changing conditions, making it the perfect choice for a year-round solution. It handles both cooler weather and the hot summer sun, ensuring a green lawn no matter the season.
  • All Season Kikuyu Blend: Kikuyu thrives in warmer weather, and this all-season blend gives you the best of both worlds — a vibrant lawn all year round, with the added bonus of quick establishment and resilience.

Time for Warm-Season Grasses

It’s time to sow grasses that love the heat. These warm-season grasses will establish quickly and set your lawn up for a strong, healthy summer.

  • Turbocote Kikuyu Lawn Seed: Kikuyu is known for its rapid growth and its ability to thrive in warmer temperatures. Turbocote Kikuyu Lawn Seed is designed to give you a quick-growing, hardy lawn that handles heavy traffic, high temperatures, and drought conditions with ease.
  • Royal Bengal Couch: For a fine-textured, lush lawn that can handle the heat, Royal Bengal Couch is an excellent choice. It's known for its toughness and resilience, giving you a beautiful lawn even in the height of summer.
  • La Prima Couch: This couch variety is perfect for those looking for a soft yet resilient lawn. It offers dense, rich growth that performs well in both sunny and warm conditions, making it perfect for NSW and ACT’s climate.
  • Turbocote Couchgrass: For a thick, durable, and attractive lawn, this couch blend is a great option. It thrives in the heat of summer, giving you a beautiful green lawn that’s tough enough to withstand heavy use and the harsh sun.

Fertilising Tip:

Use a quality fertiliser to support germination, encourage rapid growth, and prepare your lawn for summer, use our Kickstart Fertiliser to support growth during the summer. Use a slow-release fertiliser to provide your lawn with the nutrients it needs for steady growth and resilience during summer.  Use the Super Green Controlled Release Fertiliser to provide all the needed nutrients all throughout the heat.

Mowing Tip

Be careful not to cut too low - less length means less moisture in the plant.

Handy Tip:

Germinating seeds need damp soil, so ensure you’re watering consistently, especially in the summer heat. Use Wett Up for water retention.

By timing your sowing correctly and using the right blends, you’ll have a stunning lawn ready to enjoy throughout the summer months.
