Summer Lawn Tips: Tasmania

Date: 26-11-2024

While cool-season lawns can handle Tasmania’s mild summers, they require regular deep watering to stay green and healthy during the hotter months. By focusing on consistent hydration and choosing the right seed blends, you can create a lawn that looks great and stands up to summer stress.

Recommended Cool-Season Grass Blends

  • Drought Master Blend: A hardy choice for areas prone to dry spells, this blend balances resilience with a lush appearance, ideal for summer in Tasmania.
  • SR 4660ST Perennial Ryegrass: This high-performance ryegrass offers durability and a soft, fine texture, perfect for high-traffic areas.
  • Defiant XRE Tall Fescue: Tall fescue is known for its deep root system, which enhances drought tolerance and keeps the lawn green longer in summer.
  • Defiant TTT Ryegrass: A quick-establishing ryegrass that delivers a rich, green lawn with excellent adaptability to Tasmania’s cooler climate.
  • All Season Couch Blend: While primarily for warmer conditions, this blend provides a year round green.
  • All Season Kikuyu Blend: Suitable for homeowners wanting Kikuyu's toughness but with improved performance in cooler regions like Tasmania.
  • Sun and Shade Blend: Ideal for gardens with a mix of sunlit and shaded areas, providing consistent growth and coverage.

Fertilising Tip:

A well-fed lawn is a healthy lawn. Use a quality fertiliser to support germination, encourage rapid growth, and prepare your lawn for summer, use our Kickstart Fertiliser to support the growth during the summer.

Mowing Tip

Be careful not to cut too low - less length means less moisture in the plant.

Handy Tip:

Germinating seeds need damp soil, so ensure you’re watering consistently. Use Wett Up for water retention.
