Defiant XRE Tall Fescue Customer Lawn

Jordyn has recently built a new home and chose to sow her brand new lawn with Defiant XRE Tall FescueShe chose it because she wanted a cool season lawn that was going to be green all year round, but had better drought tolerance.  Great choice Jordyn.

The journey has begun and great progress has been made and she's hoping for a lush and green lawn just in time for Christmas.

Here's how she's making it happen, step by step.

None

1. Seeding and Early Progress

Jordyn carefully followed our Sowing Instructions and did a couple of reads on our blogs to make sure she was prepared. She seeded on October 23rd and after 2 weeks she noticed some old Kikuyu shoots making an appearance. While Kikuyu is a durable and fast-growing variety, especially during summer, it wasn’t part of her current plan. She’s been meticulously hand-pulling these rogue patches as the Tall Fescue establishes.

2. Managing Weeds

Broadleaf weeds can be a common problem in new lawns.   When the lawn is fully established (and regular mowing has commenced) she will apply Ravage then give her lawn a couple of weeks to recover before filling in gaps will leftover seed.

3. Overseeding for a Fuller Lawn

New lawns will never grow perfectly evenly.  This can be be for a number of reasons:

  • heavy rains can move seed around
  • certain areas are shadier
  • Irrigation runs off on a sloped lawn meaning less water to the seed.
  • warmer spots on the lawn germinate quicker.

To even things up Jordyn will use the extra seed she allowed for to fill in these patches.

With her attention to detail and dedication, this brand new lawn is on its way to becoming a lush, green landscape.

Stay tuned for updates as her lawn continues to grow and thrive.
