How to Overseed Your Sports Ground
Think of overseeding your sports ground for winter? Here's a quick rundown:
Why Overseed?
- Fixes thin and bare patches (less weeds invading!)
- Continues to actively grow when cold weather arrives
- Helps the ground recover faster after games.
Overseeding Tips:
- Time it Right: Cooler months (late autumn or early spring) are best.
- Prep the Ground:
- Mow Low: Cut the grass short.
- De-thatch
- Pick the Right Seed:
- Get good quality seed:
- Sow evenly: Use a spreader, a broadcast or drop spreader. Go over the area twice in different directions. Don't use too much seed.
- Water Smart: Water consistently to keep the topsoil damp (not soaked) while the seeds grow. Adjust if it rains.
- First Mow: Wait until the new grass is a few inches tall. Mow it higher than usual for the first few times.
- Keep it Healthy: Mow regularly, use fertiliser with nitrogen and iron, tackle weeds early, and aerate now and then.
Top Tip: Overseeding is good maintenance – it keeps your playing field strong and ready for action. Contact our team for more information.
