What Number Fertiliser to Use on your Lawn

Date: 31-08-2017

When you buy fertiliser, you'll see three numbers on the label alongside NPK.  These numbers show the percentage of nitrogen, phosphate, and potassium, which are the primary nutrients needed to feed your lawn.

Which Fertiliser is best for your lawn?

Starter Fertilisers for New Lawns (Starter – N:P:K 5:6:6)

A Starter Fertiliser is essential when establishing a new lawn from seed or getting your instant turf off to a good start.  The higher level of Phosphorus gets the roots growing while developing a good root structure.  The Potassium helps build strength and resistance to disease by building the body of the plant and in this analysis there's a lower Nitrogen level as young grass doesn’t need colour boosting.

Fertilisers for Established Lawns (Renovator – N:P:K 22:5:7)

This is the ideal fertiliser for established lawns, is suitable for all lawn types and should be used two to three time in Spring, Summer and Autumm.  The analysis shows that Landscape Range Renovator Fertiliser is higher in Nitrogen  for a great boost in colour, with results you’ll see in just a few days.  Plus higher Potassium for strong roots and the ability to fend of disease.

Controlled Release Fertilisers (Gold Pro – N:P:K 22:3:4)

A controlled-release fertiliser releases nutrients gradually into the soil and is designed to provide your lawn with a steady controlled release of nitrogen over an extended period.

It will provide a continuous green colour over a period of time as the Nitrogen is released slowly.  Use this in Spring, Summer and Autumn and is ideal for the use on newly sown lawns or instant lawn areas.
