Top 10 Tips - Sowing Lawn Seed
- Choose a lawn seed that is suitable for growing in your area/climate. Learn about Warm and Cool Season Varieties here.
- Sow at right time of year – check what the best sowing time/soil temperature is for that seed.
- Try to avoid sowing on a very windy day as the seed can be blown away.
- Fertilise the area prior to sowing using a KickStart Fertiliser.
- Use the recommended sowing rate on the packet.
- Divide the seed into two parts. Sow the first amount in one direction, then sow the rest in the other direction for a more even spread.
- Gently water throughout the germination period. In hot/windy weather keep the soil continuously moist.
- Mow for the first time when it's at least 5cm high.
