All Season Kikuyu FAQs
1. When is the best time for sowing All Season Kikuyu Blend?
Ideally Spring and Autumn are better times because temperatures are more moderate, but you can sow at any time of year. Bear in mind that watering requirements increase in hotter locations and seasons and that cold soil temperatures will slow down germination and establishment times. The Kikuyu in this blend will not germinate in locations with very cold Winters.
2. How long until I see results?
The Perennial Ryegrass in this blend will germinate very quickly, around 7 days in Spring or Autumn. The Turbocote Kikuyu grass seed takes a little longer and depends on soil temperatures and watering. Warmer, well-watered conditions speed up germination, while cooler or drier conditions can slow it down. Once it starts growing, Kikuyu establishes quickly.
3. Will the Kikuyu take over the Ryegrass?
The Kikuyu in this blend will not take over the Perennial Ryegrass completely. During hotter months it will dominate and in states with very cold Winters the ryegrass will be active while the kikuyu is dormant.
4. Will the Ryegrass die out after a year?
No. The Ryegrass in this blend is Perennial (not Annual) so it will continue to grow through the seasons. After a particularly hot summer or when wear is evident it can be oversown with more Ryegrass to boost and thicken up.
